The Historic General Dodge House
In the fall of 1961, the home of General Grenville M. Dodge was designated a National Historic Landmark. This special honor was bestowed upon the home of General GM Dodge, not because of the house itself, but rather because of the man who lived in it. To achieve this designation the site must have local, state, and national significance. The General’s home was not only the first National Historic Landmark in Council Bluffs, but it is the only registered National Historic Landmark in the city. Currently, there are 26 National Historic Landmarks in Iowa; the Historic General Dodge House has the distinction of being the second site in the state of Iowa to receive this honor.
2021 Board of Trustees
The Dodge House Board oversees all functions of this house-museum. They set policies and work with city and state entities. The current members on the Board of Trustees are President; Kathy Rieger, Vice President; Rob Dittmer, Austin Diehm, Daniel Van Houten, Chuck Hansen, Jeff Hutcheson, Laura Dodge Luther, Theresa Martin, Brandon Garrett, Jan Ehrens, Cindy Buckmaster, Nate Watson, and Shauna Cihacek.
We ask you to please respect the General’s home. Please NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY inside the Historic General Dodge House. Pictures are allowed, but we ask that you be respectful of other guests. Postcards are available for purchase in our gift shop.
